  • MASKS & HEADDRESSES: Wear your own unique and wildly outrageous mask or headdress in the parade, there is no limit to your imagination. Workshop dates tbc May and early June
  • FANTASY FLOWERS - weird and wonderful flowers to carry in the parade, then keep for house or garden - Sunday 22 May and Sunday 29 May - 10.30am – 4.00pm

WHAT TIME does it Start/Finish?

• The Parade SETS OFF at 5.30pm
• It is PLANNED to ARRIVE at Riverside Park at approx 6. 15 pm
• THE FINALE will START at 6.45pm and FINISH at approx 7.00pm
• The Ceremonial Gates will OPEN at 4.00 pm - remember to cross the palms of the Magical Mythic Gatekeepers with MANY GOLD COINS and step into a place 'out of time'

Is there a CHARGE to watch the Lantern Parade?

• The Lantern Parade is FREE, however, DONATIONS are gratefully received. Identified Donation Collectors will be walking around in the parade.
• For THE SPECTACULAR FINALE we ask for a MINIMUM $2 DONATION per person (MORE is ALWAYS appreciated!!)
• The Magical GATE KEEPERS will help you here.
This is the Lantern Parade’s main fundraising activity, the Lantern Parade is an independent event, it receives valuable support from the Lismore City Council (about 10% of the costs!)

WHAT should I BRING to the Lantern Parade?

• Dress up in WARM clothes
• A TARP and/or BLANKET to SIT on
• GOLD COINS or PAPER $$$ for DONATIONS to help with the lantern parade costs and to support the WINTER WARMERS FOOD STALLS, which are charity fundraisers.

Can I JUST JOIN the Lantern Parade?

NO, only registered lantern carriers may walk in the parade. Official Parade Participants receive a wristband allowing access to the reserved viewing area. Space in this area is LIMITED.

Can I BUY a LANTERN to carry in the parade?

YES, simple lanterns to decorate will be on sale in the Kids Arts Space Carrington/Magellan Street from 2pm – 4.30pm (or until we run out of lanterns!) You can then go to the Library Car Park at 5.00pm to join in the parade

Can I BRING my OWN LANTERN?

• NO, sorry, you can make your lantern and have it checked at the LightnUp Workshop BEFORE the day of the lantern parade. Our Public Liability Insurance requires that ALL lanterns must be approved by the Parade Organisers.

WHERE is the BEST PLACE to WATCH THE PARADE?

• ANYWHERE along the route, especially along MAGELLAN St & MARKET St
• IF you intend to go to the FINALE AS WELL stand in Molesworth and Market Streets and follow the back of the parade and enter the finale area through the Ceremonial Gates on Victoria Parade, remember your GOLD COINS for donation to the event!
• Some people watch from the MOTELS along Molesworth St
• You can also go DIRECTLY to the FINALE site at RIVERSIDE PARK, the lantern parade will do a circuit in the arena so EVERYONE has a chance to see the parade lanterns!
• We will be providing a BIG SCREEN on the top of the levee bank so EVERYONE can see the magic of the finale performance!
• Remember to bring donations - GOLD COINS PER PERSON or more if you can
• We request that people near the front of the finale performance SIT DOWN on the grass so that as many people as possible have a good view, THANK YOU FOR CARING!
• And talking about caring - PLEASE take all your RUBBISH away with you - there will be lots of BINS too.

Will there be FOOD at the Lismore Lantern Parade?

• YES, Lismore has some excellent cafes and restaurants, this year we are proud to support the CAFÉ AND CULTURE TRAIL, an initiative of Lismore City Council and Southern Cross University.
• WINTER WARMERS hot food & drink stalls will be at Riverside Park, supplied by local Community and Service organisations as fundraisers for their groups.

HOW can I GET INVOLVED?

There are LOTS of OPPORTUNITIES for participation...
• Volunteer parade MARSHALLS and TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS
• Lanterneers - carrying the beautiful feature lanterns in the parade, 150 LANTERNEERS NEEDED - call LightnUp 02 66226333
• PERFORMERS in the FINALE, no experience required!
• Performers - The Mythic Gatekeepers

WHERE can I PARK my CAR?
WHEN are the ROADS CLOSED?

• There are a lot of car parks in the Lismore CBD (the Rainbow Region Visitor Information Centre can provide maps or click here)
• The Lismore Library Car Park car park will be CLOSED ALL DAY on Saturday 26th June.
• Magellan Street from Keen to Molesworth Streets will be closed from 12noon until midnight.
• Victoria Street from Market Street to the Dog Run, including the Boat Ramp and Car Park will be closed ALL DAY on FRIDAY 25th June and SATURDAY 26th June 2010
• There are also Temporary Road Closures along MAGELLAN, MOLESWORTH and MARKET Streets from approximately 4.45pm as the parade assembles (Magellan @ Dawson Street end) with rolling closures as the parade travels through the CBD.

ALL ROADS (except Magellan & Carrington Streets between Keen & Molesworth Streets) will be open by 6.30pm

What if it is RAINING on the day?

• The Lantern Parade WILL go ahead UNLESS it is REALLY pouring with rain OR if Riverside Park is waterlogged or under water, the last cancellation call will be made at 4.00pm 26th June. Call 02 66226333 for information.
• If it is raining heavily where you are it may well be okay in Lismore, so call the Rainbow Region Visitor Information Centre on 1300 369 795

WHERE can I STAY? HOW can I get there?

• Lismore Visitor Information Centre can help with Info & Bookings, call 1300 369 795
• FLY with REX airlines direct to the Lismore Airport, book online with REX.
• LightnUp HIRES their vehicles from HERTZ Car Rentals. Please support those who support us.

Are there FACILITIES for people with DISABILITIES?

• YES, we can provide a pass to bring your car close to the finale site and access to special seating area. Please CONTACT LightnUp on 02 66226333 or Lismore City Council on 02 66250500.
• Limited space available - please book by Thursday 24th June.
• We also provide Signing for the Hearing Impaired

The Market deLight
(Night Market)

The Market deLight is an opportunity to showcase Northern Rivers artists and Regional Cuisine and for visitors to do their Christmas shopping really early!

The Market deLight will run from 12 noon until late,

The Market deLight is held in conjunction with the GREAT STREET PARTY and will involve

  • High quality arts and crafts stalls
  • Regional food produce – Regional Cuisine
  • Community Information Stalls
  • Fair Trade products
  • More Winter Warmers Bar-b-ques and Hot Dogs (Visitors are encouraged to patronise CBD businesses)
